Makeup star Glen Edward McGuinness has been crowned the first ever winner of RTE’s Glow Up Ireland.
After eight intense and emotional weeks, 28-year-old Dubliner Glen wowed in the final episode and was crowned the first ever winner of the show in Ireland by host Maura Higgins and judges Cathyanne Mac Allister and Emma O’Byrne.
As well as the title, the budding makeup star bagged a full professional makeup kit and €5,000 in prize money to help further his career.
Glen admitted the show has changed his life and career, recalling how he struggled to get work before appearing on the new show.
He has since gone on to bag a full time job on a makeup counter in Dublin Department store, Arnott’s, which he feels wouldn’t have happened without the help of the exposure on the series.
He told Irish Daily Mirror: “Just being on the show has gotten us so much recognition.
“I was struggling to get makeup jobs before being on Glow Up and now I have a full time job.. it really is giving us a lot of connections.
“I’m working in the new Morphe counter in Arnotts, and it essentially came from the show I feel.
“They didn’t say that but being on Glow Up kind of gave me that makeup presence and put me in contact with people who I wouldn’t have otherwise and then that got it all rolling.
“And even having my word out there in the world so they could just check it so easily.
“But I feel without Glow Up I wouldn’t be where I am.”
The finale saw the final trio of MUAs – including runner up Niall Casey and Michael Ryan present a masterclass on a make up style they felt represented them to Irish industry heavyweights from around the world.
The guest judges for the finale included Samantha Barry – Cork-born, New York-based Glamour Editor-in Chief and Maria Malone Guerbaa – Limerick-born, Essex-based Illusion make up artist.
Aidan Keogh – Dublin-born, New York-based celebrity make up artist whose clients include Kendall Jenner and Hailey Bieber also popped in, as well as Irish star Keilidh MUA who returned to Glow Up Ireland to see how much the finalists have grown over the series.
Glow Up Ireland is sponsored by Boots.
The final is streaming on RTE Player for those who missed it.
