Fans have called on Katie Taylor and Michael Conlan to co-headline a bumper St Patrick’s Day card in 2022.
News broke on Monday that Eddie Hearn and Mathroom Boxing won the purse big for a world title fight between Leigh Wood and Michael Conlan.
And the move could pave the way for a bumper card with Katie Taylor due to fight Amanda Serrano next year in what could be an historic night for Irish boxing.
Taylor is in action on December 11 with a full announcement expected later this week about her opponent as she will defend her world titles in a mandatory bout.
And the Bray woman has her sights set on the biggest female fight of all time against the legendary Serrano.
The Puerto Rican boats a 41-1-1 record and her sole loss came all the way back in 2012 and tops the list of biggest names in the sport.
And with that bout touted to happen next year, accompanied with Conlan’s world title fight, there are calls for the two to happen at the same time.
And Twitter users toyed with the idea of the two fights headlining in New York’s Madison Square Garden.
One user wrote: “Paddys day and michael conlan and katie taylor is easy money and in the garden is just next level they wouldn’t miss out on that sort of money it would be legendary”
While another added: “Katie Taylor and Michael Conlan St.Patrick’s Day 2022 MSG”
And Jake Donovan of Boxing Scene wrote: “Thinking out loud for a minute… St. Patrick’s Day weekend, 2022 Madison Square Garden main room Doubleheader with Leigh Wood vs. Michael Conlan and Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano (whichever order for main and co-feature). How fast would MSG
